摘要:This paper aims to explain about the history of the INS Kayu Tanam Education, founded by Moh. Syafei the Dutch colonial era, and also the implementation of INS Kayu Tanam Education viewed from the perspective of a humanist-religious education. To examine the history and education programs of INS Kayu Tanam conducted literature study from various sources, then studied also the nature of humanistic and religious education from several experts. Perspective of the humanist-religious education was used as a tool to analyze the organization of the INS Kayu Tanam Education. INS Kayu Tanam Education seeks to raise two issues at once a humanist-religious education, but the implementation was not as smooth as aspired. Basics and purposes of education show that the INS Kayu Tanam Education will develop humanist-religious education. When it comes to the implementation level, the programs stand out for their humanist education, yet still look that education held a religious education. INS Kayu Tanam deserves a high appreciation for having practiced "community-orientedproject" before formulating it into an area now in development of education in Indonesia. Therefore, Moh. Sjafei deserve dubbed as the pioneer of modern stream of education in Indonesia. Keywords: INS Kayu Tanam, humanist education, religious education.
