摘要：Historical identities use to be understood as a permanent background, where it is always possible to find prominent figures, with a similar meaning, in order to give form to the nation. Nevertheless, time and space are essential elements in the historical speech. Since it is known, history painting and monuments played a great role in Spain during the 19 th century. This articles focuses on the circumstances of these artistic activities. History is used in a different ways according to conservative o liberal ideology or the political moment. Even the place and the moment can change or fix his meaning. It is always necessary to remember that painting and sculpture, although they turned to images, are, first of all, objects that emphasize the importance of public art.
