摘要：The basic premise of the article is the consideration of La Serafina as a sentimental novel, in which the account of the origins and development of a love relationship is the explicit aim of the protagonist and which, in consequence, becomes the structuring principle for other elements in this epistolary text. In this 'sentimental' interpretation of Mor de Fuentes's novel the feelings of the protagonist in the initial stages of the love relationship are read in the light of the conventions and features found in the medieval tradition of courtly love literature. This idealizing cultural context matches the tendency of Alfonso to give a literary reading to his life. Furthermore, the irony with which those features are elaborated provides the distance necessary to analyze feelings from a perspective which is both emotional and rational, and in turn characteristic of the eighteenth-century sentimental novel.
