摘要：This article shows the changes of the clergy’s intervention in the political process during the first half of the nineteenth century, a time of increasing political participation in the Río de la Plata. This article considers the following questions: the characteristics of the management of the local ecclesiastical institutions, the role performed by the clergy as mediators, and the impact that the rearrangement of relations between civil and ecclesiastical authorities had on the role of the clergy as mediators in this period of rising provincial states. We are particularly interested in the social intervention of the rural clergy in the diocese of Buenos Aires and Cordoba by tracking changes and continuities, as well as similarities and specificities. One of the most visible of the aforementioned transformations was the new role of the clergy as propagandist of the federal or centralist political experiences.
