摘要：This article presents the conclusions of research (PARD/UFPA/CNPq, 2006) that analyzed the significant role of the press in exposing environmental issues in the past decades (1975-2002), with emphasis on deforestations and forest fires in the Amazon. This article points at the media as an essential multiplier agent of information to the digital media, the role of the Brazilian government in the root causes of environmental problems in the Amazon, the causes and effects of deforestations and forest fires in the region and the social agents involved in this process. About 1.300 reports published in Brazilian newspappers and magazines during the last decades were analyzed.
