摘要：Neste trabalho, apresentamos os achados de uma pesquisa historiográfica sobre a influência da Segunda Guerra no ensino de português como língua estrangeira no Brasil e nos Estados Unidos. Baseando-nos no princípio de contextualização, descrevemos o clima de opinião dos anos de 1940 como desfavorável à educação bilíngue de imigrantes alemães no Brasil, e como favorável ao ensino de português para os alunos das escolas e universidades americanas. Com a análise e discussão dos dados da pesquisa, nós podemos atribuir a diferença de repercussão da Segunda Guerra na prática pedalinguística à diferente visão dos legisladores dos países acerca da necessária educação linguística para as suas populações.Podemos, também, apontar para a importância da historiografia para a formação e a atuação de professores de línguas.
其他摘要：In this work the findings of a historiographic research on the influence of the Second World War in teaching Portuguese as a foreign language in Brazil and the United States are presented. Based on the principle of contextualization, we describe the climate of opinion of the 1940's as unfavorable to bilingual education of German immigrants in Brazil, and as favorable to the teaching of Portuguese for students in American schools and universities. With the analysis and discussion of the data, we can attribute the different impact of the War on the pedalinguistic practice of the two countries to the different views of the legislators about the necessary language education for their populations. We can also point to the importance of historiography for language teachers training
