Amateur Handball Athletes Present DelayedMuscle Recovery Index Compared to Non-Athletes. JEPonline2018;21(2):19-29. The purpose of this study was to analyze thefatigue index and the rectus femoris (RF) and biceps femoris (BF)muscle recovery index of amateur handball athletes through themedian (fmed) frequency of electromyogram (EMGS). The sampleconsisted of 10 handball athletes (Ghan) and 10 control individuals(Gcon). The fatigue and muscle recovery protocol were performedwith the subjects at 80% of their maximum voluntary isometriccontraction. There was no statistical difference in the percentage offmed drop between Ghan and Gcon (RF: -30.86 ± 10.75% vs. -30.35 ±12.57%, BF: -31.91 ± 10.55% vs. -28.22 ± 12.83%). Thepercentage of BF muscle recovery was significantly lower in Ghancompared to Gcon (54.64 ± 17.24% vs. 71.11 ± 14.61%, P=0.0156).The findings in the present study indicate that practicing amateurhandball does not improve fatigue resistance in the thigh muscles, and is associated with a lower percentage of muscle recovery.
