Aerobic and Anaerobic Capacity of MaleStudents According to Age and Pubertal Stage. JEPonline 2018;21(2):84-89. The purpose of this study was to investigate theinfluence of pubertal stage on aerobic and anaerobic capacity ofmale students. In order to do so, 36 subjects (47.88 ± 10.63 kg; 1.61± 0.11 m; 18.33 ± 2.86 kg·m-2; 12.64 ± 0.93 yrs) performed two tests:(a) Yo-Yo Endurance Test Level 1; and (b) Running-BasedAnaerobic Sprint Test (RAST). In addition, the subjects had theirbody mass and stature measured, body mass index (BMI)calculated, and self-referred their pubertal stage. Descriptive dataanalysis (mean ± standard deviation) and One-Way ANOVA withBonferroni’s post hoc were performed for comparison of the testsbetween pubertal stages and ages. The significance level adoptedwas P≤0.05 and the software used was the Statistical Package forthe Social Sciences (SPSS), version 15.0. The findings indicate thatthe older subjects in the pubertal Stages 4 and 5 were faster andpresented higher speed, power, and force when compared to theyounger subjects. Thus, pubertal stages influence levels of aerobicand anaerobic capacity in school children.
