LowLevels of Physical Activity are Related to Hypovitaminosis D inEutrophic Adolescents. JEPonline 2018;21(3):158-170. The purposeof this study was to determine the relationship between 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25 [OH] D) concentrations and levels of physicalactivity, as well as to verify if low concentrations of 25(OH)D areassociated with cardiometabolic risk factors in active (A) andinsufficiently active (IA) eutrophic adolescents. The anthropometricvariables, blood samples, and cardiorespiratory fitness levels wereevaluated in 33 subjects. Questionnaires evaluated the habits of sunexposure, eating habits, and physical activity levels. The IAGpresented lower values of 25 (OH) D, percentage of lean mass, andVO2 max (P≤0.01), along with a higher percentage of fat and fatmass (P≤0.01) than the AG. In the total sample, there were directcorrelations between 25 (OH) D and percentage of lean mass (rho =0.41, P = 0.01), VO2 max (r = 0.60, P≤0.01), moderate to vigorousphysical activity (rho = 0.43, P = 0.01), and lean mass (r = 0.38, P =0.03), and an inverse relationship between 25 (OH) D and fatpercentage (r = -0.44, P = 0.01). In the IAG, a direct correlation of 25(OH) D with lean mass was observed (r = 0.60; P = 0.02). Eutrophicadolescents who did not comply with recommendations for physicalactivity of 300 min·wk-1presented lower concentrations of 25 (OH) Dwhen compared to their active peers.
