There is limited research regarding the different cardiovascularresponses to acute resistance training in various body positions.Therefore, the purpose of this investigation was to determine thedifferent responses of cardiac output (CO), stroke volume (SV),heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), and diastolic bloodpressure (DBP) while performing resistance exercise. Fourteenhealthy individuals (8 female; 6 male) volunteered to participate inthis study. The resistance exercises performed included the benchpress, seated bicep curl, and shoulder press. A non-invasive cardiacoutput monitoring (NICOM) system was used to measure CO, SV,and HR. A two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeatedmeasures revealed significant differences (P<0.05) in CO, SV, HR,and DBP between different body positions. There was no significantinteraction between exercises and sets for any of the dependentvariables. In conclusion, these differences occurred due to therelationship that exists between the cardiovascular responses (CO,SV, and HR).
