摘要:We investigated the hypothesis that short-term memory (STM) is critically involved in some aspects of executive fiinction - specifically focusing on shifting, which involves the ability to switch between tasks. In healthy individuals, previous research has suggested that phonological STM is involved when selfcueing (as opposed to environmental cueing) of task switches is necessary (e.g. Miyake, Emerson, Padilla, & Ahn, 2004). We extend these findings by assessing whether semantic STM also plays a role in shiffing and by assessing the efièct of memory load increases for controls and patients with STM deficits.
