摘要:Syntactic agreement is a classic case of syntactic dependency, and so it is unsurprising that people with agrammatic aphasia typically show deficits in agreement production (e.g., Hartsuiker, Kolk, & Huinck, 1999). However, there is increasing evidence that aspects of syntactic parsing and production - including syntactic agreement production - rely on cue-based search processes in short-term memory (STM) (e.g., Badecker & Kumiak, 2007). This, combined with the similarity of brain damage leading to agrammatism and STM deficits (i.e., left inferior frontal regions; Martin & Romani, 1994), suggests that the deficits in syntactic agreement production associated with agrammatism might instead reflect underlying dencits in STM.
