摘要:Imageability is considered a semantic variable and it has been shown to influence visual word processing innonnal (Evans, Lambon Ralph, & Woollams, 2012) and aphasic individuals (Crepaldi et al., 2006). Also in aphasianoun processing is usually better preserved than verb processing. Bird and colleagues (2000) suggested that thisgrammatical category effect was indeed an imageability effect: object names tend to be more imageable and moreeasily “ picturable” than actions for a task such as picture naming. To overcome this difficulty we designed asynonym judgement task (SJT) that assesses semantic processing by means of a factorial manipulation ofgrammatical category (nouns vs. verbs) and imageability (high vs. low). The lack of spoken output facilitates theassessment of expressive aphasics who generally perform poorly in spoken output tasks. In this study we present theresults of this SJT in normals, receptive and expressive patients with aphasia.
