摘要:This study is a follow-up to one by Roberts & Tainturier (2009) in which they investigated the conditions underwhich treating naming in one language can result in cross-linguistic generalisation to the other language. Roberts &Tainturier investigated their participant’s, HBL's, performance in Welsh naming and generalisation to English. AsHBL’s naming performance is better in English than Welsh, we predicted greater cross-linguistic generalisation fromWelsh to English than vice-versa as it has been hypothesised that links between word forms are stronger from L2 toLI than from LI to L2 (Miertsch et al, 2009). We also hypothesised stronger cross-linguistic effects for cognates oftreated items, based on psycholinguistic models which suggest that cognates have stronger connections in thebilingual lexicon than non-cognates (Costa et al, 2005).
