摘要:AbstractAn important role of tires is to help automobile drivers to obviate serious traffic accidents, particularly in the snowy season. In practice, the types of tires are monitored by visual inspection with human eyes. This report is concerned with the reliable detection of tire types using the vibration signals of road surface on passing vehicles. The vibration signals vary momentarily depending on several mechanisms, such as vibration impact, tire tread patterns, and so on. Then, it may be possible to passively and easily discriminate the types of tires; i.e., the least signal differences between winter and summer tires. To detect tire vibration signals from vehicles running at 30, 40, 50 and 60km/h on average only when road surfaces were dry or wet, we used a commercially available accelerometer as a sensor, which enabled us to easily reduce cost and size in realizing a practical system for detecting tire types. To classify tires into two categories of winter and summer ones, we herein propose several effective signals, featuring a simple detection method based on the principal component analysis. From the experimental results, obtained in snowy areas, it has been demonstrated that such signal features are believed to be a potential tool for a reliable detection of the tire types by using only the vibration signals from passing vehicles.
