摘要:AbstractIn revitalising the urban public transport system in Adelaide, a greater understanding is required of the travel patterns of patrons to provide a system that caters for needs now and into the future. This paper takes stock of how the public transport system is used in Adelaide to identify opportunities to improve the system. An on-board transit customer survey conducted in 2009 for metropolitan Adelaide by the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) in South Australia is used to identify the travel patterns of bus users taking into consideration a number of factors including socio-demographics. The survey findings serve as an important tool for service planning, service delivery and the development of appropriate public transport policies that meet customer needs. This paper reports on the findings from the survey and infers opportunities for rationalisation of bus routes especially at key centres like CBD, Bedford Park, Rostrevor, and Modbury. The findings are then used to infer possible improvements that could potentially increase public transport patronage.
