摘要：The Department of Modern Languages and Classics at Saint Mary'sUniversity and the Department of Classics at Mount Allison Universitywill be offering a joint field school at San Felice, Puglia, Italy. The fieldschool will allow students to participate in an ongoing archaeologicalresearch project directed towards the examination of imperial landholdings in southern Italy and the process of cultural interaction andchange in Puglia and Basilicata after the Roman conquest. Studentswill learn the basic techniques of archaeological excavation and fieldsurvey, finds processing, environmental archaeology, photography,drawing, and data entry. As part of the field school, students will beinstructed by professors from Saint Mary's University, Mount AllisonUniversity, and Saint Francis Xavier University, and receive trainingfrom specialists in palaeoecology, environmental archaeology,archaeological ceramics, archaeological computing, and field survey.Students will work 5 days a week on site and will have their weekendsfree to visit nearby archaeological and touristic sites such as Lecce,Bari, Matera, the Gargano Peninsula, and Trani, or to participate inorganized field trips to sites in the region. Students will live in rentalaccommodations in the Italian town of Gravina in Puglia (pop. 40,000)in the interior of Puglia.
