摘要:THIS ARTICLE REVIEWS THE IMPACT OF CULTURAL FACTORS ON MENTAL HEALTH OF AN INDIANWOMEN. MARKED GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN INDIA HAS LED TO SECOND CLASS STATUS OFWOMEN IN SOCIETY. THEIR MOBILITY, WORK, SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF-IMAGE, IN FACT THEIRWORTH AND IDENTITY, SEEM TO DEPEND UPON THE MALE MEMBERS OF A PATRIARCHALSOCIETY. WOMEN'S LACK OF EMPOWERMENT AND BOTH FINANCIAL AND EMOTIONALDEPENDENCE HAVE RESTRICTED THEIR SELF-EXPRESSION AND CHOICES IN LIFE. THIS, ALONGWITH FAMILY, SOCIAL AND WORK PRESSURES, HAS A DEFINITE IMPACT ON WOMEN'S MENTALHEALTH. THIS PAPER DISCUSSES SOME RECENT ADVANCES IN THE AREA OF MOVEMENTS THATHAS GAINED TREMENDOUS IMPETUS IN THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES IS THEREDISCOVERY OF THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN HISTORY AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO HUMANCULTURE.
