摘要：Thispaper discusses the cultural tourism potential of Kıyıköy and the naturaland anthropogenic threats to extant cultural tourism values such as the Kıyıköycastle walls, Aya Nicholas Monastery and historical Kıyıköy houses. For this coastal town where such differentcultural heritage elements are found together, cultural tourism offers animportant alternative opportunity. On the other hand, recent deterioration in thestructures is significant, especially due to ongoing human interventions. Theloss of architectural elements, vegetation cover and pollution as well as writingon the walls and other damage by human impacts at the Aya Nicholas monasteryhave almost eliminated the original texture of the structures. Although similarexamples are found in very few places in Turkey, the historic Kıyıköy houses are the most importantcivil architecture assets of the town but have been exposed to intensedestruction and misuse. Protection and restoration work should immediately beinitiated in line with the Tourism Strategy of Turkey-2023.
