摘要:The aim of this study was to evaluate antican- didal activity of H. elengatum L. var. elengatum es- sential oil against ten human pathogenic Candida strains. Aerial parts of Hypericzmz elongatum L. var. elongatzmz was hydrodistilled for 3 11 using a Clevenger-type apparatus to produce essential oil in 02% yield. The oil was subsequently analyzed by gas chrornatography (GC) and gas chromatography- mass spectrometly (GC-MS) systems simultane- ously. Main constituents of the oil were identified as oc-pi11e11e(37.4%)_. (E)-[3-ocimene (23.6%) and [3-pi- nene (10%), respectively. The essential oil and its main constituents or-pinene, ocimene were evaluated for their anticandidal activity against by using partly modified CLSI M27-A2 in vitro broth microdilution method. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) results against tested strains between 31 to 1000 ug/mL. Remarkably, the most susceptible strain was determined as C. tropicalis at 31ug/1uL. H. elongatum var. elongalsum essential oil is a promising natural mixture that is capable of inhibit- ing the growth of C. tropicalis in relative low con- centrations.
