摘要：Thepresent investigation encompassed to give a quick overview of some physico–chemical parameters of water and sediment in thenorthern part of Bay of Bengal during spring period in March and April. Thephysico–chemical parameters water temperature (23–32°C), salinity (22–34‰), pH(6.0–7.8) and DO (1.94 –6.32ml/l) and sediment temperature (17–23°C), salinity (3.9–6.7‰),pH (6 –7.5), organic carbon (0.98 –3.63%) and organic matter (1.68–6.24%) wererecorded. Sediment salinity was inversely correlated with water salinity (r = –0.576, P<0.05, df = 10) and sediment pH showed a positive relation withwater pH (r =0.68, P<0.05, df= 10). No published report was found on physico–chemical parameter of subsurfacewater and surficial sediment in the Bay of Bengal off Bangladesh coast.Therefore, the present results focus a baseline data for developing water andsediment quality index of the coastal zone in Bangladesh territory.
