摘要：The world-wide and multidisciplinary ScienceCitation Index (SCI), available presently online as SCIExpanded via Web of Science from the Institute forScientific Information (ISI) in Philadelphia, has beenapplied as a powerful and reliable tool for the compre-hensive study of citation patterns (G ARFIELD 1979).Introductory bibliometric analyses for sedimentologicalliterature were already presented in Journal ofSedimentary Petrology many years ago (M IDDLETON1974, P ILKLEY & W ILCOX 1981, B ODINE 1982).
