摘要:This article challenges conventional wisdom approaches to social change that rely heavily on the com- munication of messages and ‘deficit development’ orientations. Drawing on the process sociology orienta- tions of Norbert Elias and Pierre Bourdieu as well as a southern African open process framework, a situated and engaged meaning-making orientation has been developed. Here practical and applied work supports a deepening of engagement with the issues and risks faced in contexts of environmental and health risk. The article uses practical examples or mini-case studies to illustrate the points made. Our vision is a world in which our work and lifestyles contribute to the well-being of all life on Earth (Center for Environmental Education, 2007).
