  • 摘要:Calosoma genus comprises quite large and diverse group of world-wide distributed ground beetles. The black beetle, Calosoma olivieri (Cole- opera: Carabidae) (Dejean, 1831) is one of the ground beetles species in the subfamily of Carabinae. In spring 2019 from the beginning of March the adults of C. olivieri were observed daily in the daylight and night in the region of south gover- norates of Jordan, particularly in Shoubak. They produce a foul-smelling spray from glands near the tip of the abdomen. They are recognizable due to their large thorax, which is almost the size of their abdomen and much wider than their head). It has many synonyms and several taxonomic changes. The first notes of C. olivieri adult was at Shoubak and Gadisia region at south of Jordan with few numbers in early April, 2019. After heavy rain at the mid of April 2019, the huge numbers were noticed of species at home garden and in some houses as well as in markets. It has sudden outbreak and more active at night. The beetle was appeared in high numbers suddenly causing aggregations and spread in different regions in southern regions of Jordan. A bitten child by this insect was found to have apparent swelling of the palm and dorsum of the hand, with limitation to the hand movement.
