摘要：Community serviceapplications is a course provided by faculties of education in order to givethe prospective teachers the chance to identify social problems related theirfield, develop project focused on social problems, analyze general needs of thesociety, become acquainted with public institutions, debate social problems,and develop positive attitude towards participating to community servicepractices. The aim of this study is to find out prospective language teachers’teaching experiences and opinions about their community service applications.20 prospective teachers from an English language teaching department of a stateuniversity participated in this qualitative study. The participants were givena semi-structured questionnaire with questions related to their teaching experienceat a kindergarten. After 10 weeks and 10 hours of teaching experience theparticipants’ reports were analyzed according to content analysis approach. Theresults indicated that most of the participants developed positive attitudestowards teaching in such a public service and reported this activity asinspiring for their future teaching. The study concluded that more importanceshould be given to community service appliances since it is much helpful forprospective teachers’ teaching experiences and at the same time it providesopportunity for students to identify social related issues and hence develop abridge between the university and the society.Topluma hizmet uygulamaları dersi eğitimfakültelerindeki öğretmen adaylarına toplumdaki sosyal sorunları tanıma, sosyalprojeler geliştirme, toplumun genel ihtiyaçlarını analiz etme, kamukuruluşlarını tanıma, sosyal sorunları tartışma ve topluma hizmetuygulamalarına karşı olumlu tutum geliştirme imkânı sunan bir derstir. Buçalışmanın amacı öğretmen adaylarının topluma hizmet dersi içingerçekleştirdikleri öğretmenlik deneyimlerini ve görüşlerini ortayaçıkarmaktır. Bu nitel çalışmaya, bir devlet üniversitesinin İngiliz dilieğitimi bölümünden 20 öğrenci katılmıştır. Katılımcılardan, bir devletanaokulundaki öğretmenlik deneyimleriyle ilgili yarı yapılandırılmış sorulariçeren bir dönem sonu raporu yazmaları istenmiştir. 10 haftalık ve 10 saatliköğretmenlik deneyim ve gözlemlerini paylaştıkları bu rapordaki veriler, içerikanalizi yöntemine göre değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuçlar, katılımcılarının büyükçoğunluğunun topluma hizmet uygulamaları kapsamında İngilizce öğretmeye karşıolumlu tutum geliştirdiklerini ve böylesine bir etkinliğin gelecektekikariyerleri için ilham verici olduğunu göstermiştir. Çalışma sonucunda, toplumahizmet uygulamalarına, öğretmen adaylarına öğretmenlik deneyimi kazandırması veonların toplumla ilgili sosyal konularda farkındalık yaratması ve böyleceüniversite ile toplum arasında bir bağ kurulması açısından daha fazla önemverilmesi gerekliliği ortaya çıkmıştır.
