摘要:In an editorial in an earlier issue of this journal, Johanson Tinnerberg ( 1 ) expressed serious and well-foundedconcern over the large number of future occupationalcancer cases that will result if exposures for a number ofsubstances are not reduced below the so-called "bindingoccupational exposure limit values" (BOELV) issued bythe EU ( 2 ). The balance between what is perceived aspossible to comply with and the foreseeable health gainwhen setting BOELV is further discussed in a letter tothe Editor by Cherrie ( 3 ). This debate raises severalimportant aspects of how to protect workers from canceras well as other potentially lethal diseases. Herewith, wediscuss some of these aspects.
