摘要：Two specimens of Mucor variicolumellatus L. Wagner & G. Walther were isolated from soil samples collected in an upland rainforest area located in Pernambuco state, Brazil. Their identity were confirmed by morphophysiology and ITS rDNA sequence analysis. Both specimens are distinguished from other species within the Mucor circinelloides complex by producing obovoid, ovate and strawberry-shaped columellae. A detailed description and illustration of the specimens are presented. This is the first record of M. variicolumellatus in the Neotropics.
