摘要:The principal area of interest of this essay is the analysis of a document from the State Archive of Venice (the archival series Capi del Consiglio dei Dieci: Lettere di Rettori e di altre cariche) connected to an episode from 1748, when the inhabitants of the village of Žrnovo on the island of Korčula in Croatia (Dalmatia) opened several tombs in the local cemetery, because they feared the malicious activity of vampires. This essay tries to discuss the social circumstances of this event and local ethnographic traditions concerning superstition.
