摘要:A new onion peeling machine was manufactured and evaluated to suit the small-scale processing units under Egyptian conditions.The onion peeling machine composed of two main parts.The first part is used to cut and separate the top and the bottom of the onion using a rotary conveyor.While,the second part is used to remove the skin using a rotary barrel cylinder separating the dry peel by colliding with solid objects.The machine was evaluated using different onion bulb sizes (small < 40 mm,medium from 40 to 60 mm,and large > 60 mm diameter); four peeling drum speed of 30,40,50,and 60 r.p.m; two peeling peels type of rubber and Galvanized iron; and three batch load of 5,7.5,and 10 kg.The experiment was used to evaluate the peeler in term of its machine productivity,actual peeling efficiency,removed peels percentage,proportion of peeling loss as onion cracks,onion bruising,power and energy requirements,and operational cost.Results of the tests indicated that,maximum of 91.37% onion peeling efficiency and 11.34% percentage of the removed peels were recorded.Also,the maximum machine capacity was 0.34 Mg/h.On the other hand,a minimum of onion bruising percentage,onion cracks percentage and total cost were 0.80%,1.23% and 231.4 231.40 L.E/Mg,respectively.
