摘要:Pesticide poisoning as an important public health problem mostly occurs in the agricultural sector.The purpose of this work is to determine the factors affecting pesticide poisoning in the agricultural sector based on incident reports in terms of the important parameters such as exposure time and place,poisoning type and cause and the characteristics of the aflected people which is very important for the planning of control and prevention programs.In this study,pesticide related poisoning incidents in rural areas in the province of Adana between the years 2002-1015 were analyzed by investigating accident reports.During the fourteen-year period,1844 people were poisoned due to 1292 poisoning incidents.Twenty-one percent of victims were poisoned because of agricultural pesticides and animal health products.During the period,it was observed that 20.4% of pesticide poisoning occurred in children younger than 5 years of age.Pesticide poisoning was most common in summer (44%).Pesticides that cause poisoning were used for agricultural application (78%),destroying home pest/insect/ant/rodent (19%) and animal health (3%).Results may contribute positively to improvement of agricultural education programs in order to reduce pesticides poisoning among agricultural workers and their families.
