摘要:Access to modern energy services is critical to realising a number of socioeconomic development challenges such as poverty eradication and improved health conditions. However, despite the plethora of energy resources in Nigeria, access to modern energy services in the country is still abysmal. With its per capita energy demand among the lowest in the world as well as its projected population growth rate, Nigeria’s energy demand is expected to continue growing in the future. At the same time, Nigeria is faced with the severe threat of climate change which further exacerbates poverty in the country. Going forward, a transition to a low carbon development path is urgently needed. This essay discusses different options available for decarbonisation of the Nigerian economy.
