  • 摘要:Silva PRN, Monteiro ER, Peixoto CG, Monteiro ABMC, Gomes TM, Figueiredo TC. Acute Effects of Inter-Set Rest Period Foam Rolling on Repetition Performance in Strength Training. JEPonline 2019;22(3):108-115. The purpose of this study was to investigate how foam rolling applied to the anterior thigh during the inter-set rest periods affects the repetition performance in the knee extension exercise. Ten recreationally strength trained men were recruited for the study. Initially, the subjects underwent a 1-repetition maximum testing and retesting, respectively. Thereafter, the experiment involved 2 sets of knee extensions with 70% of 1-repetition maximum load to concentric failure with the goal of completing the maximum number of repetitions. During the inter-set rest period, either passive rest (PR) or 60 sec of passive foam rolling (FR60) in a randomized order was applied. Given that the number of repetitions with PR was not statistically different from FR60 (P=0.14001), the findings suggest that inter-set foam rolling of the agonist muscle group did not influence maximum repetition performance and has important implications for foam rolling prescription when used in both rehabilitation and athletic populations. If the purpose is to improve repetition performance and training volume, foam rolling should not be applied to the agonist muscle group between sets or before knee extensions exercises.
