Short Exhaustive Intermittent Exercise Results in Acute Inflammatory and Rheumatic Markers Release. JEPonline 2019;22(3):87-94. Regular exercise is a very effective nonpharmacological intervention for several diseases that include rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory chronic conditions. But, in the early stages ofexercise, the strategy may need caution due the inflammatory potential and, therefore, exercise may create a problem. The purpose of the present study was to determine the acuteand subacute effects of short exhaustive exercise and an intermittent physical exercise oninflammatory and rheumatic markers. Fifteen young subjects participated in an exerciseprogram and 3 days of data collection that took place before the exercise intervention and atdays 7 and 14 after the intervention. Biochemical and immunologic parameters werecollected at the 3 moments. The data were statistically analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis withDunn’s post hoc at an alpha level of 5% for statistical significance. The findings indicate anincrease in interleukin-17a (IL-17-a), tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), C-reactive protein(CRP), and rheumatoid factor, but tended to normalize within a 2-wk period.
