Cardiorespiratory Fitness and Metabolic Profile in Adolescents with High Sedentary Behavior and Low Level of Physical Activity. JEPonline 2019;22(4):84-94. The purpose of this study was to compare the cardiometabolic and inflammatory profile in a population of Brazilian adolescents. The sample consisted of 95 individuals (39 girls and 56 boys), aged from 10 to 18 yrs old. The adolescents were allocated into adequate cardiorespiratory fitness (ACRF, n = 27) and low cardiorespiratory fitness (LCRF, n = 68). Blood samples were analyzed and the cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2 max) was also evaluated. The LCRF presented higher values of glucose, insulin, CRP, BMI-z and lower HDL. In addition, VO2 max presented a strong inverse correlation with BMI-z (rho = -0.78, P<0.001), inverse and moderate with CRP (rho = -0.46, P<0.001), glucose (rho = -0.48, P<0.001) and insulin (rho = -0.55, P<0.001), and direct and moderate with HDL (rho = 0.43; P<0.001). It was concluded that LCRF presented an unfavorable cardiometabolic profile, demonstrating the need for an increase in physical activity and a decrease in the time spent in sedentary behavior, which would lead to an improvement of the cardiometabolic profile.
