  • 摘要:Westcott W, Ogawa E, Pearson M, Watts J, Plouffe D, Vallier S, Burke D. Effects of Resistance Exercise, Aerobic Activity, and Increased Protein on Body Composition and Blood Pressure in Overweight Older Adults. JEPonline 2019;22(7):52-63. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of an exercise and nutrition program that did not use meal replacement shakes (Non-Shake Group) with the effects of a previous study that incorporated the same exercise and nutrition program with 2 daily meal replacement shakes (Shake Group). Overweight, older adults in both the NonShake Group (N=31) and the Shake Group (N=37) performed 20 min resistance training and 20 min of aerobic activity 2 d∙wk-1 and consumed 1,200 to 1,800 kcal∙d-1 with 1.5 g∙kg-1 ∙d -1 protein intake. The Shake Group had an 80% program completion rate; whereas, the Non-Shake group had a 65% completion rate. After 6 months, both groups attained significant improvements in BMI, body weight, body composition, body contours, and systolic blood pressure. After adjusting for age and baseline values, the Shake Group experienced significantly greater reductions in BMI and body weight than the Non-Shake Group. Hence, the findings indicate that weight loss programs that incorporate meal replacement shakes with exercise training enhance weight loss, and the convenience may facilitate program compliance and completion.
