Acute Effects ofStrength Training with Blood Flow Restriction on Different Cuffs on MoodProfile in active adults. JEPonline 2020;23(1):15-23.The purpose of thisstudy was to compare acute effects of strength training with blood flowrestriction (BFR) on different cuffs on mood profile in active adults.Fourteen active adult men underwent two BFR strength training protocols.Experiment 1 - Low load (i.e., intensity) strength exercise (20% of 1RM)combined with BFR in 7 cm (Arm) and 12 cm (Quadriceps) “Shortcuff”(LL+BFR-SC); Experiment 2 - Low load strength exercise (20% of1RM) combined with BFR in 12 cm (Arm) and 20 cm (Quadriceps) “Largecuff”(LL+BFR-LC). The subjects performed a sequence of four strengthexercises to failure. After responding to the mood profile (POMS), rating ofperceived effort (RPE) was measured before and after each trainingsession. After performing the experimental protocols, it was observed thatthere was a significant difference (P<0.05) between pre and post in allmood state variables. The short cuff obtained significant difference(P<0.05) and effect size with greater power of decrease in tension, depression, anger, and mental confusion compared to the large cuff. Bothprotocols improved moods, but the short cuff was more effective andpleasant to use in training practice.
