摘要:The purpose of this studywas to determine the prevalence of symptoms suggestive ofphysical exercise addiction in people aged 50 or over living inRio de Janeiro, Brazil. Two-hundred and thirty-threepractitioners of physical exercise aged between 50 and 89(average = 63.5; standard deviation = 9.7) participated in thisstudy. The Negative Addiction Scale was used to determinebehavior suggestive of addiction. The prevalence ofsymptoms suggestive of exercise addiction among theparticipants was 46.4%. The factors associated with thesuggestive symptoms were high BMI, low education level,body aesthetics as the main reason for performing exercise,aqua aerobics practice, the use of dietary supplements, andinterest in TV programs that deal with body shape and health.We concluded that exercise addiction among people over 50is more associated with an attempt to have a beautiful body.
