摘要:Completed in 1865, St Andrew's Cathedral1is a national monument that is regularly featured in guidebooks about Singapore. Built in the English Gothicstyle, descriptions of this handsome building invariably mention that the interior wallsof this Anglican church used a unique form of plaster known as Madras chunam. The rather unusual ingredients that make up Madras chunam-among other things, egg white and coarse sugar-are undoubtedly a key reason why it has become lodged in the popular imagination.
