摘要:In the current context of growing energy demand, hydrokinetic energy caused by the interaction of tides and water flows in river estuaries is one of the sources with the greatest potential to be exploited. This article presents a methodology and a specific code that based on the results obtained by hydrodynamic simulation programmes allows to perform an evaluation of the hydrokinetic energy of an estuary, and the fraction that can be harnessed by vertical axis hydrokinetic turbines. The code has been integrated in IBER hydrodynamic simulation software, applying the methodology to the case of the Nalón river estuary (Asturias, Spain).
