摘要：The bubonic plague outbroke in Brazil in 1899. The disease was initially notified at Santos. From there, it swept into Rio de Janeiro and other Brazilian cities. The borders of the state of Minas Gerais are not far from places touched by the plague. However, this vast region did not report any cases of the disease. This text analyses the actions implemented by the authorities against the plague in Minas Gerais. In particular, we focus on doctor Cícero Ferreira’s role in the fight against the disease’s spread.
