摘要：The aim of this study was to find out the challenges faced by teachers of English in teaching English at pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). This study was qualitative research with a case study approach. The participants of this study were two teachers of English at pesantren in MUBA regency. To find out the challenges faced by the teachers in teaching English, the data gained from observation and interviews were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The findings indicated that there were five challenges faced by the teachers of English in teaching English: 1) improving students’ motivation; 2) improving students’ language competence; 3) managing over-crowded class; 4) managing limited time; and 5) facing lack of supporting facilities. Implications of the findings are also discussed.
