摘要：The article aims to provide theoretical elements to support the understanding of the phenomenon of pluriactivity in rural areas, understood as one of the manifestations of changes in the world of contemporary work. The same was elaborated from the deductive method and bibliographic research, carried out during the PhD process in the Post-Graduation Program in Rural Extension of the University of Santa Maria / RS. In order to achieve the objective, we sought to address events that marked the capitalist society and that had repercussions in the world of work, especially for family farmers. Also, it discusses the motivations that lead to pluriactivity and the main characteristics of it.
