摘要:The search for theoretical and practical applications of linguistic science has a long and checkered career in the history of our discipline. On the one hand, various allied disciplines would seem to have incorporated some aspects of linguistic theory into their own theoretical frameworks (cf. Greenberg 1971). For example, the vast influence of American structural linguistics is easily detected in many anthropological theories and models, e.g. in their efforts to distinguish functional and nonfunctional aspects of sociocultural behavior. In more recent applications, there are numerous attempts, with varying degrees of success and elegance, to apply the methodology and formalism of generative grammar within the field of anthropology, e.g. many treatments of kinship terminologies.
