摘要：The paper is a study that assesses the prime factors that determine the profitability in the banking industry, focusing on banks in volatile environments in the MENA countries for the timeframe 2010-2019. These factors will be categorized into internal and industry external factors i.e. macroeconomics, country risk and bank related factors. As the bank's proxy for profitability, we consider the return on average equity, return on average assets and net interest margin. The empirical findings are consistent with the expected results. Political risk, credit ratings, corruption, concentration ratio and efficiency, and the economic growth have influence on bank profitability, on return on average equity, return on average assets and net interest margin..
