摘要:Distemper is an infectious contagious disease caused by a virus that affects mainly domestic dogs, where its transmission consists of inhaling aerosol droplets and other bodily excreta. The main clinical manifestations observed are oculonasal discharge, cough, vomiting, diarrhea and neurological symptoms. The diagnosis can be made mainly from the physical-clinical examination and serological tests. The study aims to report whether there was an increase or decrease in the prevalence of dogs positive for distemper treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the State University of Maranho in 2019, evaluating the effectiveness of the introduction of preventive methods for the disease and relating the occurrence of cases in each month with its respective rainfall and average temperature of the municipality of So Luís in 2019. For this, 9,960 clinical records of dogs from the files of the teaching hospital were analyzed, where the study population corresponds to dogs diagnosed with distemper through of fast immunochromatographic test. Data were tabulated, using graphic constructions for simple descriptive statistical analysis, together with meteorological data collected on the INMET website. Based on this information, comparisons were made of these data with previous years and studies in other states. The effectiveness of the methods employed at the beginning of 2019 by the UEMA veterinary hospital was observed, resulting in a decrease in positive cases in the second half of 2019. In addition, the number of cases increased along with the amount of rain and a decrease in the average temperature in the city.
