摘要：The records of therapeutic practices with the use of medicinal plants range from the prevention, treatment and cure of diseases, being of great relevance to human history. Thus, this article aims to identify the medicinal plants used in therapeutic practice for the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus. This research is also justified due to the large number of people affected by the disease. Therefore, a bibliographical, exploratory and qualitative research was carried out. Thus, to compose this research, a search was performed in databases (Google Scholar), (PubMed) and (Scielo) using descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS): diabetes mellitus" and "medicinal plants" or their equivalents in English and Spanish, being selected the references covering the period from 1993 to 2021. Discussing the use of traditional knowledge in the use of medicinal plants in Brazil for the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus and the hypoglycemic effects of drug therapy. It can be concluded that the subjects sick with Diabetes Mellitus have a variety of therapeutic practices with medicinal plants for their treatment, but their effects should be better studied in human beings, in order to ensure the use of these plants.
