摘要:The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a staple food in the Brazilian diet, acting as a low-cost source of vegetable protein. Despite the possibility of being cultivated in different edaphoclimatic and technological conditions, its cultivation in regions of low fertility or the occurrence of incorrect fertility management can limit its productivity. The objective of this study was to verify the effect of slate dust and limestone on productivity, production components and soil physical attributes in an area cultivated with common bean in the north of Minas Gerais. For this, an experiment was installed in a randomized block design with four replications, additionally two control treatments were included. Treatments consisted of five doses of slate powder: 0; 1.25; 2.5; 3.75 and 5.0 t.ha-1. The control treatments consisted of the application of limestone powder at a dose of 1.0 t.ha-1, combined or not with the use of slate powder at a dose of 2.5 t.ha-1. The contribution of potassium and magnesium to the soil with the use of slate residue may have contributed to increases of up to 11.10 and 54%, respectively, in the mass of a thousand grains and in the productivity of the bean plant. Limestone powder does not interfere with the production and production components of the bean plant. Both tested rock powders do not interfere with the physical attributes of the soil.
