Literature review: Pregnancy is a physiological event, accompanied by natural results, which end up imposing on health professionals the obligation to obtain specific knowledge for health promotion assistance with humanization and integration. The main objective of dental care at this stage is to prevent the appearance and aggravation of oral problems that may be opportune during this period, such as: gingival changes, periodontal diseases, pyogenic granuloma and salivary changes, dental erosion, in addition to the presence of caries. It was observed that the safest months to perform procedures in pregnant women are during the second semester, however, in urgent cases these issues must be resolved regardless of the gestational period. Thus, most dental treatments can be performed during pregnancy as restorative, periodontal, endodontic, prosthetic and extraction treatments. Final considerations: During pregnancy, several hormonal changes occur in the pregnant woman body, which makes her mouth more susceptible to onset of diseases such as gum tissue diseases and caries. For this reason, it is important to emphasize the need for monitoring by a dental surgeon, as the mothers oral health directly influences the health of the baby to be born.
