摘要：Objectives: To evaluate the intensivist nurses' knowledge about sepsis, to identify which nursing actions should be performed early regarding patients with suspected sepsis in the Intensive Care Unit, and to list the nurses' main difficulties in caring for patients with suspected or diagnosed sepsis. Method: This was a field, quantitative, descriptive and exploratory study. Data collection was performed from July to September 2021, by virtual means, in Google Forms containing questions about the characterization of the population and sepsis. The study had a sample of 24 intensivist nurses working in a public hospital. Results: The mean number of correct answers for the applied questionnaire was 50.46% and although sepsis is a frequently discussed topic, nurses are unaware of the updated definition of sepsis according to the Latin American Institute of Sepsis, as well as identification of early signs and symptoms. It is noteworthy that the nurses obtained assertive answers regarding the actions performed daily in intensive care and is associated with care practice. Conclusion: It is suggested that permanent education actions should be taken, as well as the elaboration of institutional protocols, in order to promote the updating of intensive care nurses, regarding sepsis in the care of critically ill patients.
