摘要：Since antiquity man has made use of natural products, especially plants that have therapeutic purposes. Brazil has a wide biological variety of plants, is considered the country with the richest flora in the world. Herbal medicines are used by man in the treatment of all types of diseases, which are becoming increasingly commercialized, especially among low-income populations in developing countries. Among several aspects that contribute to the production of herbal medicines stands out the rutaceae family, known for presenting a great diversity of secondary metabolites. The species Zanthoxylum rhoifolium Lam. belonging to this family has stood out due to the pharmacological activities performed. Therefore, this study aims to review the literature on botanical characteristics, phytochemical evaluation, biological studies, antioxidant, antibacterial and antimalarial evaluation of Z. rhoifolium Lam. To obtain the data, criteria such as: evaluation of studies focused on the area of botany and phytotherapy from the years 2006 to 2020, specific on the genus Z. rhoifolium Lam, were used. who have undergone careful analysis. The articles were obtained on the platforms: Electronic Electronic Library Online: UFMS Digital Repository; Infarma; Unesp Institutional Repository; Hoehnea- Institute of Botany; UFPR Digital Collection; Scientific Archive Magazine; Infarma; Pharmaceutical Biology. As results of this research we observed that Z. rhoifolium Lam presents antitumor, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial and antimalarial activity. In view of these results, z. rhoifolium Lam was found. is a species with significant biological potential.
